The DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme, also known as the Masters Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance, provides scholarships to outstanding graduates from developing countries. This program aims to support future leaders who want to contribute to the development of their home countries.

Participating Institutions and Programs

The scholarships are available for selected Master's courses at various German universities, including:

- Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg: Social Protection

- University of Duisburg-Essen: Development and Governance

- Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt: Public Policy

- Universität Magdeburg: Peace and Conflict Studies

- Hochschule Osnabrück: Management in Non-Profit Organisations

- Universität Passau: Development Studies

- University of Passau: Governance and Public Policy

These programs have an international orientation and are taught in either German or English.

 Scholarship Value

The scholarship covers:

- Tuition fees

- Monthly stipend of €934

- Health insurance

- Travel allowance

- Study and research subsidy

- Rent subsidies and allowances for spouses and/or children if applicable

Additionally, scholarship holders will receive a six-month German language course before starting their studies, which is mandatory.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible candidates must:

- Be a citizen of a developing country (check the list of eligible countries)

- Have an excellent first university degree in fields like social and political sciences, law, economics, public policy, or administration

- Be willing to contribute to the development of their home countries

- Have practical experience relevant to the program (professional experience, internships, political/social commitment)

How to Apply

1. Choose one of the participating Master's courses.

2. Submit your application directly to the selected university, not to DAAD.

3. Clearly state that you are applying for the DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme.

4. Applications are accepted from 1 June to 31 July 2024.
